Believe it or not, some of the most successful folks you see are introverts. How did they use their introversion to their advantage and become successful in an industry that seems geared toward loud, outgoing folks?
Here are four straightforward steps that can be useful.
1. Confirmation.
The most important thing is to win the battle of mindset. Confirmation are simply positive things that you assert out loud to oneself each day. This is extremely tricky on occasions because you may not actually believe what you are claiming.
So why would you say something to oneself that you don't believe? Heightened confidence to step out has to start with you. Therefore if you are shy and intimidated by folks, start to say something like the following: "I am NOT shy and I am Really not intimidated by folks. I am Totally confident when I am getting around people."
Repeat this to yourself out loud at least 10 times before you leave your room. When you say this, don't simply mumble it either, say it as many times as necessary until you assert it with fervour and conviction.
2. Read to grow.
Again, heightened confidence starts with you. Read something everyday for a minimum of 30 minutes that will help you boost your self-image. This can be an article, a book, or maybe an audio series. The more that you learn the more you will grow. The more you grow, the more your self-confidence will improve.
3. Take action everyday.
Do something each day, beginning with something tiny, that immediately deals with your low self confidence. As an example, if you can't talk with people as you feel nervous and inferior, just start by saying 'Hi'. As you get more comfortable with this, then start to make chit-chat. You may begin to feel more assured and more confident until one day, you will find that you have overcome low self-esteem in that area.
4. Stop the destructive feelings.
Destructive thoughts are like land mines. As soon as you step out to face your fear, an unproductive thought comes and tells you that you can't do it and BOOM; you believe it and lose that round. As an alternative diffuse negative thoughts before they've a chance to do damage.
A great way to do this is with a rubber band! Put a rubber band around your wrist. Every time a thought comes into your head that tells you that you can't do something, you'll never succeed, or anything negative, SNAP the elastic tie on your wrist.
You could be snapping that band until your wrist is red and sore. Before long though, you'll stop the negative thoughts because you do not want to hurt your wrist any more.
These steps will help you raise your self-esteem and become more assured stepping out. Just remember this: you are not going to switch over night. It will take some time but so long as you are progressing, you are on the way to success.
